about me

My name is Candela Sevilla and I’m originally from Spain. I am a Ph.D. student in Romance Languages with a concentration in Spanish Linguistics at the University of Alabama.

My research interests include code-switching, syntax, and bilingualism, with a focus on how these phenomena shape multilingual speakers’ identities and communication patterns.

I hold dual B.A. degrees in English and Spanish from Fairmont State University and an M.A. in TESOL from West Virginia University.

At UA, I serve as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and instructor of record for the Spanish basic language program, where I’m passionate about creating engaging, student-centered classrooms that promote language learning through cultural and linguistic diversity.

Beyond my research and teaching, I’m interested in language pedagogy, translanguaging practices, and fostering inclusive environments for multilingual learners.
